About Kerry Kincaid

Although a native of the neighboring state of Minnesota, I have lived in Eau Claire for over 30 years.

I was born in rural Minnesota. But, as a young girl, my parents moved the family from our small dairy farm in western Minnesota to the large city of Minneapolis. There I grew up in a close, urban neighborhood within walking distance of my school and summer jobs. In this setting I learned the value of hard work and the comfort of a close-knit community. Like all the kids on our block, my siblings and I had part time jobs immediately upon turning 16. But, prior to that time, we ran and played under the watchful eyes of the neighborhood moms.

My dad worked in the City's street department for 30 years. He also owned a lawn care business. My brother and sisters were expected to work just as hard as the rest of the crew, even though we were the bosses' children. My mom taught school in a one-room school house in rural Minnesota before having a family. But, for most of her life, raising 4 children was her passion.

As a young adult I moved to Ohio to spread my wings a bit. And then moved to Eau Claire to try living in a smaller city where I could also be close to my family, who still live in Minneapolis. My first job in Eau Cliaire was as an RN at Luther Hospital. Subsequently I worked as a substitute teacher in the Eau Claire area and as a librarian at UW-Eau Claire McIntyre Library.

We value education in our family. I am a graduate of UW-Eau Claire with a degree in Political Science and a master's degree in Library Science from UW-Madison. My husband is a physician with a 35 year practice in cardiology. Our 4 sons are graduates of the Eau Claire School District and are all on their way, or have already completed higher degrees.
